Driving Restrictions

The minimul age of a driver is 18 years. Children 4-12 years of age must use a special restraint. The use of seatbelts is compulsory for all passengers. the legal blood alcohol limit is 0.8‰.

From half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise, headlights are required. These should also be used in tunnels and under bridges. Foglights should only be used in case of poor visibility. In built-up areas, the horn may only be used when in extreme danger; at night, headlights should be flashed instead. Outside built-up areas, the horn must be used to signal the intention to pass.

The middle lane of three-lane roads is used for passing.

The police are authorised to remove your driving license and to collect fines on the spot.

Generally, parking is on the right-hand side of the road. In Venice, it is very difficult to find a parking-spot. It is advisable to park at a mainland park instead.
