Driving Restrictions
In Canada, vehicles drive on the right and overtake on the left. The legal driving age is 16. All passengers must use seatbelts at all times. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.8‰ and drunk driving is severely punished.
You are advised to turn your headlights on when driving, even at daytime. Driving with parking lights only is illegal.
When a school bus stops and its red lights are flashing, it means that traffic travelling in both directions must stop. A flashing red traffic light means you must come to a complete stop and check that the road is clear before proceeding. Traffic lights go from red to green with no intermediate amber light.
It is illegal to park on a pedestrian crossing, within an intersection or within 6 metres of these. Do not park within 6 metres of a Stop sign, a Yield sign or traffic light. Double-parking and parking along a red or yellow curb are illegal. Vehicles must always be parked in the direction of traffic.
