Rental Restrictions

In order to rent a car in Greece, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. An international driving license is required.

Vehicles rented in Greece may be driven outside of the country only by special arrangement, but an additional fee may be charged for this service.

Driving Restrictions

In Greece, traffic is on the right and overtaking on the left. The minimum driving age is 18 years. Children must be at least 10 to sit in the front. Seatbelts are mandatory for all passengers. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5‰.

If there are three lanes on the road, the middle one should be used for passing in both directions.

In towns, you may only use the horn in cases of immediate danger.

Parking is prohibited within 3 metres of a fire hydrant, within 5 metres of an intersection and within 15 metres of a public transportation stop.

If you park in a No parking zone, the police may remove your license plates if you owe a fine. The police do not collect fines; you have to pay to the public treasury.
