About Sofia

Sofia city centre stands upon the foundations of the original Roman settlement, Serdica.

The most photographed monument of Sofia is said to be the St Alexander Nevski Memorial Church. The city boasts its many museums that are almost exclusively Bulgaria-oriented and aimed at reflecting the conflicting fortunes of the once great empire, the people that have passed through it and the lives of the Bulgarians themselves. You can also visit the famous Sveshtare Tomb, the largest one on the Balkan Peninsula. Do not forget to savour the delights of the local cuisine.
