The minimun age of a driver is 18 years. Children under 12 must use a special restraint. All passengers are obliged to use seatbelts. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0,08‰.
You have to have your headlights on from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise and also in tunnels and under bridges. Use your foglights in case of poor visibility only and the horn only in cases of extreme and immediate danger. Outside built-up areas, however, the horn must be used to signal your indication to pass.
If a road has three lanes, the middle one should be used for passing.
The police are authorised to collect fines on the spot and remove your driving license.
In order to avoid car thefts, the police are subjecting foreign-registered machines to checks. Vehicles that do not pass the this check of identification documents may be confiscated.
Parking is generally on the right side of the road. Parking in Blue Zones (Zona Disco) is allowed one hour at a time from 9 am to 2.30 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm Mon-Sat (except holidays) provided that a parking disc is displayed. Parking in Green Zones (Zona Verde) is forbidden from 8 am to 9.30 am and from 2.30 pm to 4 pm on weekdays.
