Rental Traditions
In order to rent a car in France, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge.
Cars rented in France are not allowed into the following countries: Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine and the former Yugoslavia.
Driving restrictions
In France, traffic is on the right and passing on the left. The minimum driving age is 18 years. The use of seatbelts is mandatory for all passengers. Children must be at least 10 years old to sit in the front; if under 10, they must be seated in the rear or in a fitted child seat.
The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5‰.
Vehicles parked in dimly lit streets must have their parking lights on. You may only use the horn in cases of extreme and immediate danger. If a driver flashes their lights behind you, it means they want to pass you.
Broken centre lines show the section of road where passing is allowed.
Do not park where the curb is painted yellow. Parking on the left side of a street is only allowed on one-way streets. If not indicated otherwise, parking is free of charge from 7 pm to 9 am and on weekends, holidays and in August.

Road Tolls
In France, most of the motorways are tolled. Tickets are provided upon entry to the motorway and must be paid upon exiting. The price of the ticket depends on the distance you are travelling and also on the on the type of your vehicle. You can pay in cash or with any major credit card. There are no tolls for trunk roads.

About Saverne
Saverne is a small and friendly town that has the region’s characteristic steep-pitched roofs, dormer windows and window boxes full of flowers. It is also the best starting-point for exploring the northern Vosges Mountains. There are several attractions in the town, including the vast classical style Chateau des Rohan, now housing the Musee Rohan. Near the castle, the church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativite is also worth visiting. The archaeological museum has a great display of Roman art. The town boasts several beautiful gardens such as La Roseraie and the botanical gardens.
Around the town, there are several beautiful small towns and village. You can take a walk to the ruined Chateau du Haut-Barr or the Chateau of Lichtenburg.
