The minimum age of a driver is 18 years. Children under 12 must use a special restraint. The use of seatbelts is required from all passengers. the legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08‰.

You must use your headlights from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise and also under bridges and in tunnels. Use your foglights in case of poor visibility only. In built-up areas, you are not allowed to use your horn. Outside built-up areas, though, you must use the horn to show your intention to pass.

On three-lane roads, the middle one is used for passing.

The police are authorised to remove your license and collect fines on the spot. They try to avoid car thefts by subjecting foreign-registered cars to spot checks.

Parking is generally on the right side of the road. Parking in a Blue Xone (Zona Disco) is allowed for a limited periond of time: from 9 am to 2.30 pm and 4 pm-8 pm Mon-Sat (except holidays). You have to display a parking disc. There may also be Green Zones (Zona Verde) where parking is forbidden from 8 am to 9.30 am and from 2.30 pm to 4 pm on weekdays.

Road Tolls

Tolls are charged on the autostradas. The driver will receive the ticket upon entry to the motorway and has to pay upon exiting. Tolls can be paid in cash or with a credit card. Viacards are accepted on all routes except the A18 and A20.
