Rental Restrictions

Cars rented in Finland are not allowed into the following countries: Albania, Bosnia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. Certain cars are not allowed into Italy.

Driving Restrictions

In Finland, traffic is on the right and overtaking on the left. On multilane roadways, you can overtake on the right. The minimum driving age is 18 years. All passengers are required to use seatbelts. Children under 3 must be seated in the rear in a child seat, if available. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5‰. Drunk driving is strictly punished.

Parking restrictions are strict but clearly indicated. Always park in the direction of traffic and at least 5 metres from any pedestrians crossings and intersections. There are metered parking areas in most cities. Where there are no meters, pay-and-display vouchers must be displayed on the dashboard. When parking in dimly lit streets, parking lights must be on.

When driving, headlights must be on at all times. The use of horns in towns is only allowed in cases of immediate and extreme danger.

The police are authorised to collect fines on the spot.
