Driving restrictions
The minimum age of a driver is 18 years. Children must be at least 10 years old to sit in the front seat. If they are under 10 years of age, they must sit in the back or in a child seat.
All passengers are obligated to use seatbelts. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5‰.
A flashing red traffic light means “Do not enter”; flashing amber means “Caution”; flashing yellow arrows mean “Yield”.
If you pass bicyclists, you mus give them a clearance of at least one metre.
If you park your vehicle in a dimly lit street, you must leave the parking lights on. Do not park where the curb is painted yellow.
Pay-and-display machines (horodateurs) are common in France. Unless otherwise indicated, parking is free of charge from 7 pm to 9 am and on weekends, holidays and throughout the whole of August.
A driver should only use a horn in extremely dangerous situations.

Road Tolls
Most of the motorways in France have tolls. Tickets are provided when entering the motorway and must be paid when exiting. You can pay in cash or with any of the major credit cards. The price of the tickets depends on the distance you are travelling as well as on the on the type of the vehicle. There are no tolls for trunk roads.
