Driving Restrictions
The minimum age of a driver is 18 years. Children under 12 must use a special restraint. The use of seatbelts is compulsory for all passengers. the legal blood alcohol limit is 0.8‰.
It is obligatory to use headlights from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise and also in tunnels and under bridges. Foglights should only be used in conditions of poor visibility. You are not allowed to use the horn in built-up areas except in cases of immediate danger; at night, headlights should be flashed instead. Outside built-up areas, you must use the horn to signal your intention to pass.
In case of three-lane roads, the middle lane is used for passing.
If you violate the traffic laws, the police are empowered to remove your license and to collect fines on the spot. In order to avoid car thefts, the police often subject foreign-registered vehicles to spot-checks. Vehicles that do not pass the check may be confiscated.
Parking is generally on the right side of the road. Parking in Blue Zones (Zona Disco) is allowed one hour at a time from 9 am to 2.30 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm Mon-Sat (except holidays) provided that a parking disc is displayed. Parking in Green Zones (Zona Verde) is forbidden is prohibited from 8 am to 9.30 am and from 2.30 pm to 4 pm on weekdays.

Road Tolls
Road tolls are charged on the autostrada. Tickets are issued upon entry to the expressway and paid upon exiting. Payments can be made in cash or with a Viacard (accepted on all routes except the A18 and A20).
