Rental Restrictions
To rent a car in Malta, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for at least 2 years. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. The maximum rental age for rentals is 70 years.
Cars rented in Malta are not allowed to travel outside of the country.
Driving Restrictions
Traffic is on the left and passing on the right. The minimum driving age is 18 years. All passengers are required to use seatbelts. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5‰. Breathalyser tests may be carried out at any time and drunk driving is severely punished.
There are parking metres on major streets in Malta and you can park for up to two hours at a time, but parking may be a problem in Malta due to a shortage of car parks. Illegally parked vehciles will be wheel-clamped or confiscated.
