Rental Restrictions

In order to rent a car in Lithuania, you have to be at least 21 years old and have at least a year of driving experience.

Travelling into other countries with a rental car can be arranged by special request.

Driving Restrictions

In Lithuania, traffic is on the right and overtaking on the left. Passengers in the front seat are required use seatbelts and if the car has rear seatbelts, rearseat passengers must fasten these as well. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.4‰ and drunk driving is severely fined.

If there are two white lines in the centre of the road, you are not allowed to pass other vehicles.

In towns and villages, it is illegal to use the horn unless you are in a dangerous situation.

You are advised to use guided parking facilities because of a high incidence of vehicle theft and pilfering. Usually, there are parking meters in the centre of towns and you have to obtain a disc or ticket. Do not park where the curb is painted yellow. Illegally parked cars will be wheel-clamped.

The police are authorised to collect fines on the spot.
