Rental Restrictions

In order to rent a car in Estonia, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your licence for one year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge.

Vehicles rented in Estonia may travel into Latvia, Lithuania or Russia for additional fees and/or insurance. Travel into other countries may be available by special request and may incur additional fees and/or insurance.

Driving Restrictions

In Estonia, traffic is on the right side of the road and overtaking on the left. The minimum driving age is 18 and the legal blood alcohol limit is 0.2‰. Seatbelts are compulsory for front-seat passengers and if the car has rear seatbelts, these must be fastened as well.

While driving, headlights must be on at all times. If there is a double white line in the middle of the road, overtaking is illegal.

In built-up areas, you not allowed to use the horn, except in cases of immediate and extreme danger.

You are not allowed to park where the curb is painted yellow. Many towns in Estonia have metered parking, especially in the town centres. Illegally parked cars will be wheel-clamped or confiscated.
