Hamburg Car Rental Guide

The current page introduces you to the possibilities of car rental in Hamburg and displays some important traffic regulations you should pay attention to when renting a car and driving.

Car Rental Tips

Driving Restrictions

The minimum age of a driver is 17 years. Unless the seat is equipped with a special child restraint, children under the age of 12 are not allowed to sit in the front seat. It is compulsory for all passengers to wear seatbelts at all times. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5‰.

High fines are determined to those who exceed the speed limits, go through a red light or pass on the right. The police extensively use automatic cameras to catch any traffic violators. The ticket will be posted to the address on the registration. Car rental companies will forward the tickets to the offending client.

It is prohibited to drive with the parking lights only, but low beams must also be used in case of bad weather.

If you leave your vehicle or stop for more than 3 minutes without loading or unloading cargo or passengers, you are considered parked. Parking is not allowed within 5 metres of a pedestrian crossing or an intersection and within 15 metres of a bus or train stop. No-parking zones are marked on the street with a zig-zag white line.
