Driving Restrictions
In Ireland, driving is on the left and overtaking on the right. The minimum age of a driver is 17 years old. Unless the seat is equipped with a child restraint, children must be at least 12 to sit in the front. Seatbelts must be worn at all times. The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.8‰.
The use of horns is prohibited between 11.30 pm and 7 am. You may only use foglights in fog or falling snow.
When parking, all restrictions for parking are lifted after 6 pm, except where there are yellow lines on the road and within a bus stop area. A double yellow line means No parking at any time. Pay-and-display machines are common throughout Ireland. There are large fines for dangerous parking and your car may also be clamped. Fines for parking violations may be collected on the spot. A parking disc allows for one to three hours of parking. Do not park where there are yellow lines on the roadside.
In order to catch traffic violators, speed cameras are used all over Ireland.
