About Auxerre

Auxerre is the capital of the Yonne departement of the Burgundy region of France. It is a beautiful old town with narrow lanes and open squares. The centre of the city is pedestrianised. There are many great buildings in the city, including the cathedral of Saint-Etienne and the abbey church of St. Germain that is now a museum. St. Germain’s boasts ninth-century frescoes that are among the oldest in France. The upper part of the town is dominated by the golden dials of the Clock Tower.

From Auxerre, you can visit the Chablis vineyards located in the northern part of Burgundy; you can also hire a boat to take a tour on the river. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in the city.
